Nine interelated, blown-glass pumpkins speak to impacts of politics on the individual. Cartoon-like and seemingly full of gaiety, the piece visually crisscrosses images and text of various people who have negotiated life-altering impacts of power both large and small. In the center is an antique barometer as indicator of fate's changing weather. The well-known include Emperor Lucius Verus (cntr L), Antoine Lavoisier (lower R) and Madame Lavosier (top L) as well as the somewhat less famous Madame Antonia Duvaucey (CR). Also appearing are two important players in the French Revolution: Maximilien Robespierre (loser) who gazes upward to his last view of life; and (winner) Jacques Louis David (C), symbolized by a Napoleonic hat.
